Steve in Ireland

Steve Moore was born and raised in California in one of the richest agricultural counties in the state. At 18 he left for college and never looked back. Undergraduate and graduate education on two coasts and in the great basketball state of Indiana were followed by a career in teaching and research. It can be truly said that he reversed the adage “go west, young man,” by spending twelve years in South America before finally settling in Massachusetts. He and his wife, who supports his many idiosyncrasies with infinite patience, now live in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.

One problem associated with writing techno-thrillers and science fiction is getting the science and technology right. Like other authors in these genres, Steve has to work at that. His training in mathematics and physics make it a little easier, especially if you throw in a long-time interest in robotics, genetics, and scientific ethics. He wants his writing to be entertaining rather than nerdy, but he doesn’t want the reader to complain about inaccuracies either.

Another problem is making the characters believable and getting them to interact realistically, even in unfamiliar or even other worldly settings. Steve has always been a keen observer of personal interactions, both here in the U.S. and in different cultures abroad. This has found expression in his writing. In fact, he spent twelve years working in Bogota, Colombia, as professor and researcher. Those years together with many trips around South America and Europe gave him an appreciation for different cultures and people and provided him a unique perspective on our great melting pot, the United States of America.
