Mad dogs and Englishmen…

I’m not reminiscing about Joe Cocker and his hard rock music.  If you remember those times, you know that music was several dBs above the pain threshold.  So is this post because I’m referring to ISIS and their spokesman who beheaded the American reporter.  (Always a spokesman and never spokeswoman—women are just property in the radical Muslim world, especially for members of ISIS, who simply see them as breeders that give birth and suckle little terrorists who grow up to join the cause.)  They’re the mad dogs (aka rabid dogs without any human qualities at all) and the knife-wielder spoke with a British accent.  Let me analyze these two points.

Ironic, isn’t it, that James Foley had been reporting on the atrocities of the Assad regime in its murderous campaign against Syrian rebels?  We can ask: are there any legitimate rebels left in Syria?  Maybe.  Another journalist was just released by an al Qaeda affiliate (poor al Qaeda: they’re #2 on the brutality list now).  No one seems radical enough for ISIS.  Was Assad prescient, knowing this was coming?  ISIS clearly wants to create a tyrannical, fundamentalist theocracy, the murderous violence of its leaders making Iran’s Ayatollahs look like Mother Teresas.  The only solution that works against these mad dogs is their own medicine—beheadings are medieval, though, so bullets to the head will do.  That’s the only thing that will work.  You put a rabid mad dog down…permanently.

I don’t want to hear the usual non-productive whining, Christian or otherwise, that these people can be reformed.  BS.  They can’t.  They’ve left the human race.  Rabies has no cure.  They must be quarantined and euthanized to avoid infecting the rest of humanity.  This is a real zombie apocalypse.  These idiots are the undead who want to create more undead while slurping up the blood of their supposed enemies (maybe mixed metaphors using vampires?).  They won’t stop until no sane and reasonable person is left on the planet.

Don’t argue either that any actions along these lines will only create more mad dogs.  I think Saudi Arabia and other countries who support madrasas, Salafi Islam, and other terrorist groups should wake up and smell not roses but the stench of rotting bodies in the sun.  Maybe the rulers of these countries will soon join them?  Saudi princes, your heads are on the line.  These people will continue murdering and moving forward their agenda of creating a 12th century radical Muslim caliphate where strict sharia law is applied by the alpha male of the rabid dog pack.  Their creation will be darkness and fear.  They must be stopped.

Does that mean we should put boots on the ground?  Maybe, to build a high wall around them, covered with broken glass and barbed wire, and with international prison guards who shoot on sight any ISIS mad dog that tries to come over that wall.  That’s about as Christian I can be with these guys.  Otherwise, we shouldn’t put our troops in harm’s way.  Why spill young American blood hunting down mad dogs in support of people who won’t do it themselves?  We’re not animal control officers.  Let’s instead blow ISIS to kingdom come, focusing especially on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed prophet and fanatical founder of the new Islamic state.  He’s target number one and public enemy number one for all decent people in the region and for the West.  You think bin Laden was bad?  This guy’s a complete psychotic!

Yes, I’d continue the air strikes on ISIS in both Iraq and Syria!  It’s better if coordinated with ground operations, assuming the ineffectual fools in Baghdad ever get their act together and we aren’t supporting Assad in Syria (he needs to go, no matter what).  I’d also continue the relief effort for the displaced refugees from Syria and Iraq.  This is a humanitarian effort which has to start first by protecting them from the hordes of mad dogs.  Moreover, I’d crank up the pressure on the incompetents in Baghdad, pure cowards who won’t capitulate to ISIS only because they know there will be hell to pay, an extreme ethnic cleansing of Salafi Sunnis against Shi’ites and Kurds.  Somebody has to get some cojones and stand up to these mad dogs.  Their violence is one thing; their threats another.

And that’s the segue to the guy with the knife and his British accent.  Apparently, ISIS is full of radicals who have spent time abroad.  Many speak excellent English.  Many have Western passports.  They’re not on any list, though.  That’s scary.  This isn’t the time to become complacent and let down our guard against terrorist acts here on American soil—or in Western Europe, for that matter, where enclaves of recent Muslim immigrants in European cities are more common than in the U.S.  Where Salafi thought is present (i.e. a desire to destroy the West and return to the 12th century), we must be watchful as hawks.  In either the U.S. or Europe, just one cell of dedicated terrorists can create a horrible disaster, one involving the loss of countless lives and terrible destruction of infrastructure.  We know al Qaeda has a network of such sleeper cells.  Will they become even more radicalized when taken over by ISIS?  Or, will ISIS cells simply replace them?

What’s the phrase?  These are the times that try men’s souls!  Men, women, and children—all innocents—could suffer the same fate of Mr. Foley as long as ISIS and radical and fanatical Salafi Islam survives—in Syria, Iraq, and other locales of the Middle East; and in Western Europe and the U.S.  We should do anything in our power to stop this scourge in its tracks, or pay the price over and over again.  It’s time to up our surveillance game.  Sure, we should ensure as much as possible that people’s privacy and due process are maintained (tell that to Google and other corporate data brokers too), but useful intel can be obtained in a way that does this.

What we save by keeping our troops out of Iraq (billions every day in Dubya’s time) is better invested in border and port security anyway, for example.  Necessary infrastructure (water supplies, bridges, and public transportation) needs to be protected at all cost.  Information security is also paramount.  The world needs to go to war—a surgical and decisive war, carried out by air strikes, drones, and special forces along with an internet battle against radical fanaticism—against this horde of mad dogs before it’s too late.  Otherwise, we’ll soon be on a fast track back to the Dark Ages.  We might already be on it.  If so, welcome to the 12th century…and watch your head!

And so it goes….
